David Cope

Professor of Music and Chair

Department of Music at the University of California –Santa Cruz 

    He is one of the world’s leading authorities on analyzing music with the use of computers.  Experiments in Musical Intelligence, created by Cope, is a software program, which creates new composite songs based on the common notes and tendencies of  musical work.  Professor Cope is the subject of a video release, “Bach lives at David Cope’s House.”  He is the author of five books; his newest book is entitled “The Algorithmic Composer.”

    He has worked with numerous multi-cultural recording artists and labels.  John conceived and created the idea of the World Anthem while working with a recording label release “National Anthems of the World” by composer Stephen Bigger for the 1996 Summer Olympics.  John’s research led him to approach Professor David Cope and Stephen Bigger to collaborate on the World Anthem Project.

Composer and Producer

    Stephen has been involved in the music industry for twenty years.  He arranged a complete set of national anthems for the Atlanta Olympics and is the arranger of the “National Anthems of the World” CD.  This release was the impetus for the World Anthem project.

  1. World Anthem premiers at the Denver Millennium Celebration at the stroke of Midnight to fireworks display in front of 250,000 spectators. December, 2000

 

  1. Colorado Symphony Orchestra performs the first live Performance of the World Anthem for World Kindness Day. November 2001

 

  1. The Prague Symphony Orchestra records the first recording of the World Anthem. January, 2002

 

  1. World Anthem video is produced by the MindShare Foundation featuring images donated by photographers from all over the world. April 2002

 

  1. World Anthem is broadcast in the closing ceremonies of the 40th anniversary of the Peace Corps. June 2002

 

  1. World Anthem is broadcast in ceremonies at the Praxis Peace Conference – Croatia. June 2002

 

  1. The Fort Collins Symphony performs the World Anthem in the Celebration of Hope and Humanity event January 2003

 

  1. World Anthem signs with publisher Hal Leonard to publish school band arrangements of the World Anthem. 40% of the proceeds go to the Student Ambassadors of Peace Outreach program.

 

  1. United States Air Force Academy Band records and releases the World Anthem on their CD the Big Blue Ball. January 2005

 

  1. The World Anthem continues to be performed by schools, universities and communities around the world at events that celebrate global harmony.
